My Layout: Work Costantly in Progress

I have built my layout in H0 scale starting from a single basement of 340X135 cm. Now I have enlarged it by 35 cm reaching 340x170 cm.
I have used a 2 cm thick wooden board and the tracks are  put directly on top of it without ballast (not ideal but good for the frequent redisign i am used to do).

My track has several turnouts and the Point Motor are operated by Micro Servos (like SG 90) controlled by an Arduino Mega equipped with an Mega Sensor Shield.

Currently more than 15 turnouts are operated by this system. For more details check the JMRI page

The Tracks are a very important part of the Railway, I use Horby and Peco (my preferred) Cod.100.

Tracks in Cod.100 ensures more compatibility (no derailment) also with older Loco and Wagons. Alternative is cod. 83 that is more realistic. Nice videos about differences are here (ita)  or here (eng)

After I got a bit experienced, I started to use Flexible Tracks (like Peco SL-100); Flexible track allows you to create more realistic curves and tracks but are more difficult to use. In YouTube you can find a lot of video, like this one, that explains how to cut or curve flexible tracks.

Remember to always use a consistent Track Geometry avoiding curves with radius smaller than R3 for High Speed sections.

Check here the Hornby Geometry.
